Kiss, Marry, Pie? Jamil Jivani's Holiday Posts
Choices: America, Canada, ALL Canadians
One of my guilty pleasures is Love Island UK. Each season they play a game, Kiss, Marry, Pie where players must choose which of their fellow islanders they would kiss, who they would marry, and who they will smack in the face with a pie. I was reminded of this game while scrolling Jamil Jivani’s social media the last few days.
Marry: America
Jivani posted an image of himself at the American Ambassador to Canada, Pete Hoeskstra’s July 4th celebration. A portion of the caption reads: “Millions of Canadian families rely on paycheques that depend on Canada-USA relations. I will never apologize to Liberals for fighting to keep those jobs. People matter more than politics.” Does he though? In February of this year Jivani’s comments on tariffs imposed on Canada by the Trump administration, threats to our national sovereignty, and Canadians united resistance, included Canadians “are shooting ourselves in the foot if we continue this anti-American…hissy fit.” This message of “support” of Canada was during an interview with Breitbart News. He also told Canadians that Trump loves them. Love bombing anyone?
Let’s look at the reality of the impact of Trump’s actions on Canada. Let’s begin with the loss to Canadian steel producers, there have been over 1000 jobs lost, and it is speculated over the next two to three years there will be dramatic increases to those numbers, putting 6000 steel jobs at risk. Softwood lumber faces an impact on the 30,000 Canadians employed in this industry. The federal government has created a workforce tariff response, $70 million for steel industry workers, $50 million to softwood lumber workers, and $450 million to support workers affected by tariffs. In April Canada’s unemployment rose significantly due to U.S tariffs and market uncertainty (caused by American actions). Maybe I am dramatic but I feel as though being a little upset with Trump’s “love” might be appropriate. Hoeskstra’s speech at his event focused on American alcohol being banned in some provinces in Canada. This ban is an act of resistance to the actions of Trump’s attacks on the nation. Attending the event was one of the organizers of the so-called freedom convoys, Tamara Lich. Jivani absolutely hobnobs with those most engaged in Canadian unity (sarcasm).
Kiss: Racists, Anti-Immigrants, Anti-LGBTQ2SA, and Anti-Islam Canadians
On July 3rd, Jivani posted about Prime Minister Mark Carney attending the Pride Parade in Canada, referring to it as “liberal degeneracy.” I hate to break it to Jivani, but there are Canadians who are members of the LGBTQ2SA community, so are these individuals not the Canadians you are fighting for? Apparently Jivani was upset that men were wearing bathing suits in the parade. Under a Conservative leadership will beaches be banned?
I have questions about shirtless men. Are they degenerates if they are dancing and celebrating? Or are they degenerates when they are beating the crap out of each other for money? Is it ok to be shirtless if you are straight? Maybe Jivani is correct politicians who are seen with shirtless men in pictures are “forcing values on our kids” and “managing the decline” of our nation.
Jivani took to social media to highlight some of the messages he received in response to his post. He focused on the racism he received, referring to it as “liberal racism.” I do not condone the hateful messages he received. Conveniently Jivani did not highlight the homophobia that supported his posts.
Jivani’s official Canada Day message is a stark contrast to his July 4th message. He celebrated the Canadian companies giving donations to the party, and apparently focusing on Canadian pay cheques. Well, not any money that is brought in by the Pride festivities in Toronto. “Pride Toronto’s 2025 Festival contributed over $574 million to GDP, an increase of more than $100 million from last year ($473.6 million), generated a significant $251.3 million in combined Federal, Provincial and Municipal tax revenues, and supported 4,570 direct jobs across the city.” I digress, Jivani’s Canada Day message is the bridge between the pie and marry areas of this game.
His message to Canadians highlighted all his grievances about Canada, including immigration, and Islam. He opened by telling Canadians to be proud of “who they are” in a nation “founded by British and French.” Hey, racists and the Red Ensign supporters, I think he is speaking to you! Be proud to be in a nation that “assimilated new comers into a culture that did not fragment but assimilated people.” Perhaps we are no longer a mosaic, or he is trying to tell his beloved America that he wants to assimilate into their melting pot. He also points out that Canada was founded on the rule of law and religious freedom, but that religious freedom does not apply to Muslims because he eventually calls out the call for prayer being played in Regina. He claims that over the last decade, we are losing what makes us a special nation. “They have told you to be ashamed of where we come from.” Who is they? Is he referring to Canadian’s acknowledging our history of colonization and harm to Indigenous peoples? Yep, that is exactly it, he then references the flying of the Canadian flag at half mast for the Indigenous unmarked graves.
He then promotes the Great Replacement conspiracy theory, by stating that “they” are forcing you to be afraid of calling out “mass immigration.” “They” also are making Canadians afraid to call out changes to the nation without the “will of the people.” Specifically, “when you hear the call to prayers of another religion in the public square.” Damn that mosque must have intense speakers that Jivani can hear them in Oshawa, Ontario. He also complains we cannot remove “illegal immigrants” and every dollar we send outside our borders hurts our veterans. Would those be the same dollars spent by Canadian corporations to pay for Jivani to party with Tamara Lich? Oh no, just taxpayer money to stop the advancement of Russia in Europe, or NATO? In an amazing feat of not understanding civics, he then complains about line ups in hospitals for healthcare. Dear Jamil, healthcare is in the provincial domain, and your party is leading Ontario and not spending money on healthcare. Jivani states the first step in realizing we deserve better is to “be proud of who we are.” So maybe not spreading hate, Maple MAGA, and conspiracy theories? Or maybe we are proud to be “elbows up” resisting attacks from the United States, and not sending love from our abuser?
Pie: Canadians
Jivani chose to highlight fearmongering, hate, and conspiracy theories for Canada Day. Conversely he chose to highlight and support an abusive trade system and protecting some Canadians for July 4th. Referring to some Canadians as degenerates, others as changing the culture of Canada for not being “Christian” or not being born in the nation they now call home.
For his comments on Pride Jivani received horrible racist attacks on his social media accounts. This is never acceptable. He posted a video highlighting the “liberal racism” he received, yet, he did not highlight any of the hate from his supporters to Muslims, LGBTQ2SA, or liberals on those same posts. Nor does he acknowledge the hate he has sowed in his own holiday posts.
Canadians are being pied as this MP focuses on hate, culture war issues, and bowing to America’s authoritarianism. The choice to rile up and support racists, homophobes, Islamophobes, and Maple MAGA, is a pie in the face of the majority of Canadians who celebrate multiculturalism, our sovereignty, and our collective power in the face of adversity.
